Deirdre Burke

Senior Dietitian, University Hospital Galway

Deirdre Burke qualified as a Dietitian from the University of Hertfordshire, UK in 2010. Following this she went on to work in the NHS (Cambridge University Hospitals, Homerton University Hospital and St Barts NHS Trust) covering areas such as Oncology, Surgery and Renal Disease. Deirdre returned to Ireland in 2016 where she worked as a dietitian under the hepatopancreaticobiliary team at St Vincent’s University Hospital seeing patients with Pancreatic Cancer, Cholangiocarcinoma’s, Neuroendocrine Tumours and Pancreatitis. She has also worked at Milford Care Centre and Community Dietetics in CHO 3. Since September 2022 she has worked at University Hospital Galway as a Home Parenteral Nutrition Dietitian. She sees all patients who are discharged home from the hospital on Parenteral Nutrition including all those with intestinal failure and inoperable malignant bowel obstruction.   

Deirdre has a keen interest in the impact of nutrition in patient focused care, throughout the cancer journey. She has contributed to nutrition work undertaken by Our Ladies Hospice Research Group.
